BITSAT is more competitive than IIT JEE says Times of India, do you agree ?

Lakhs of Students in India dream in their sleep and in the day of getting through IIT JEE to the most prestigious institutes in the country, the Indian Institutes of Technology, but  Times of India recent article reads that BITSAT is much more competitive than IIT JEE, the article apparently took help of statistics of number of seats available in BITS and IIT’s and number of students applying for the entrance examinations of both the institutes. The statistics show that while IIT JEE is taken by 5.2 Lakh this year while the seats available are 9,600 taking the applicants per seat ratio to 54 while BITSAT 2012 which is going to be held from 10th May is going to be taken by 1.36 Lakh students while the seats available are 2,000 taking the applicants per seat ratio to 68.

After IITJEE , VIT reportedly has the highest  applicant to seat ratio of 48, then followed by AIEEE With 31 and Manipal with 27. ” The BITSAT has been growing in popularity among students since it was introduced in 2005. Over the last 2-3 years, number of applicants has increased enough to make the exam more competitive than the IIT-JEE,” says S Mohan, associate dean of admissions at BITS.

But what do you think ? Is BITSAT more competitive than IIT JEE ? is applicant to seat ratio a right indicator of the competitiveness of any examination ?

Manmeet Singh says:

yaa me 2 agree….

Swastik Euler Ojha says:

arre bitsat and iitjee…….both are two different genre exams……….one is based on your pcm skills and how quick u can think and how much can u think and the oder is based on logics, total practice and some deadly and precise time management! u have to score 2/3 for bitsat and 1/2 for iits……….hell lot of difference!

These comparisons are absurd, non-sense and illogical! Whosoever has posted this story, he/she should contact me and get some advices. No. 09896661873 , Email – theshreyasraj@gmail.com Feel free to argue.

IIT-JEE is more difficult than BITSAT, but when it comes to competition IIT-JEE lags behind.

Aleem Mushtaq says:

waaiii

Dev Vaibhav says:

They should do 10+2 again and see the difference JEE's and BITSAT's question paper….

Romil Sandal says:

passing bits cut off is a piece of cake…same doesn't go for IITs.

Nainam Kapil says:

I do not think so 'coz only ratio of participating students and available seat does not really decides the level of competition actually it depends upon difficulty level, speed required , style of the xam also…in nut shell JEE still most competitive.

Check the definition of COMPETITION.

Nainam Kapil says:

Burhan Qayoom i think u should do that first

Nainam Kapil i've already checked…now its ur turn

Nainam Kapil says:

Burhan Qayoom yeah em able to see that how much you know lol ! go! go away and learn then come back here…

Nainam Kapil lemme ask u a ques….if in an exam 1st 2nd n 3rd positions are respectively 99% 95% 90%…n in another exam the same positions are 50% 49% n 48%….which exam is competitive?

Nainam Kapil says:

burhan qayoom dude u are just looking outer part, see up to depth… IIT is more difficult than bits ….i repeat
apart from ratio of no. of student participating to total seats
there are some other factors too which determines the level of that xam
e.g.-> difficultly of exam
->type of question it is asking
->frequency required (i mean how much questions are asked in 3 hrs)
->what type of students are giving the xam.

Nainam Kapil says:

and i answer ur question, yeah 50,49,48 are so close marks but remember for getting a good college , one required at least 50% cut off….if u r getting 48% marks and expecting mechanical engineering in IIT KANPUR , then it is pretty difficult task….yeah thats another thing that this year criteria was little bit different…

dude even in eee if u want admission in PEC u need atleast 220/360 marks i.e. >50%
i really wanna say..these all stat are not up to mark
competition level is still like as IIT>AIEEE~VITEEE>BITS

Nainam Kapil says:

lastly i would like to say that in IITJEE there is reservation thus for generals like us need to score more , thus more competition

Faraz Khan says:

ridiculous…………ther's no reservation in bitsat…….so for a genral cndidate itz far mre diffclt 2 get inti iitz nitz.

its difficult and far less rewarding

Don't look at these stats. , Competition for PM of India is toughest one. 1 out of 120 crores ! :-)

Shreyas Raj Raj stillwe don`t have a good one

Vipul Kumar Narula HAVEnge yaar, Wait karo .

Anmol Biswas says:

considering this I would say ISAT , AFMC , AIIMS etc are the most competitive. considering for ISAT, examinees : 95,000(approx) seats : 100+60 (approx gen+reserved) If anything AFMC is even more competitive.

no actually bitsat is not that competitive usually those selected in iit of course dont join bitsat some prefer aieee nd some go with state jee half mad medical students also give this xam(though they are least likely to join ) so real competitors are less than expected

BITS is the best m/.

sigh….. :P . Thats the best way to debate. No one craps and everyone is happy :p

Aditya Bhutra says:

The lower ratio is because many medical students , though not interested in engineering also opt to give IITJEE and AIEEE.

Aditya Bhutra says:

What about ISI B.Math then ? 3500 examinees , only 5 seats. Ratio = 700.
Now Beat That !!

Soumya Chakraborty says:

surely! maintaining high speed during BITSAT also tests your application skills in peer pressure during BITSAT…nd THE COMPETITIVE NATURE IS MORE, ALSO BECAUSE THERE ARE NO FUCKING RESERVATIONS IN THIS :)

Vinod Kumar says:

no seat ratio is not the righ indicator of competetiveness.

yes thats cent % true like when u enter aieee xam hall u find ppl sleeping or just waiting for 3 hrs 2 finish as soon as possible all 5 ppl around me wer sleeping right from the 1st hr it clearly shows that 12 lakh ppl were not competing for 35000 nit seats

Vinod Kumar says:

Piyush Ranjan absolutely right wat actullay matters is d zeal d student having for it, hard work doing for it and d dreams dreaming for it

Shatrunjay Singh Pundir says:

I guess the stats are wrong. For proper engineering streams in 8 main IITs ie. Mumbai, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chenna, Roorkee, Guwahati, IT-BHU the seats are only around 4000.

Shatrunjay Singh Pundir says:

But IIT entrance exam is much for difficult…..Competitiveness is not the point.

Shatrunjay Singh Pundir says:

much more

it is not that difficult, just the mental pressure is much more when you're in the exam hall.!

Shatrunjay Singh Pundir says:

Jasvinder Singh Why is mental pressure more……IIT being recognised as " most difficult" is the cause.

Siddhartha Verma says:

I believe that it's more competitive too. I don't personally like IITs and wouldn't be going if I get selected too….but I am eager to go to BITS.

Tushar Kumar says:

what's the reason of you not liking the IITs??

Siddhartha Verma says:

Just a personal preference there….IITs look like too much Microsoft-oriented (Their CS course), while I am more interested in going through the Open Standards with UNIX/Linux things.

*That's just my own personal opinion, no hurt feelings meant*

Siddhartha Verma :p u no nothing about CS then :P "IITs look like too much Microsoft-oriented". Now what kind on nonsense is that ? :/ And dont worry, u wnt be getting a chance to come to an IIT anyway. cheers

Siddhartha Verma says:

Shohin Mukherjee LOL. Maybe…I got my brother studying in IITK, and that's what he said… .NET, Visual C#, and other MS nonsense.
I am more inclined towards Linux/using GTK APIs than the propriety ones. And for saying I don't know anything about CS, I've been an active contributor to many opensource projects since last few years…!! And that doesn't go without any programming skills.

Siddhartha Verma rest assured, whatever u said is untrue. gnight ;)

Siddhartha Verma says:

Shohin Mukherjee Okay….what?

Shantanu Dixit says:

siddhartha u are mad u need tretment

Siddhartha Verma says:

No thanks. Why aree IITs having such fanboys who can't stand it when someone says – 'I am not interested in IITs'. They are worse than Justin Beiber, Kristen Stewarts's fans combined.

Siddhartha Verma coz we knw that ppl who are nt given a seat in an IIT become the biggest haters of IIT ;) .

Siddhartha Verma says:

Only the people who had the dream of giving JEE since they were toddlers. Not the people who actually wanted to get the best knowledge in the field…! You are another one of those IIT worshippers who would give up everything just to be in some college.

And why the hell are you having this argument? Because 'I did not give JEE, but AIEEE/BITSAT/SAT?' If that's the reason, then that again proves your stupidity.

Shantanu Dixit says:

Siddhartha Verma to crack jee is not a joke but to crack bitsat is a joke.. most of the students who are rejected by iits are students of biits.

Shantanu Dixit says:

Shohin Mukherjee you are absolutely correct jab aangoor nahi milta hai tho angoor khatte lagne lagte hai.

Siddhartha Verma says:

Shantanu Dixit Perhaps sucks to be you. Your only aim in life has been to go to IIT.

Siddhartha Verma abbe o, hamari aims, abilities ko question mat karna. U are a kid. Jo sochna hai soch, par aukat ke andar reh ke.

Siddhartha Verma says:

Shohin Mukherjee I still don't have nothing against you. It's just you guys who have been arguing since the start. And I didn't question your aim but Shantanu's. His comments kinda sucked and looked like a worshipper of colleges.

Siddhartha Verma i just told u u r wrong. so instead of arguing here with me, u should go n do some research to figure out why. i am ur senior. i have more experience n being an iitian perhaps i am more aware about our coursework than u.

Siddhartha Verma says:

Shohin Mukherjee And I'm still asking where I am wrong. I've been asking many people in here too, and at least in IITK (That's where I live) that they don't do that much development for the open source platforms like GNOME, GRUB, or writing kernels. Maybe I've asked the wrong people but then too………and I liked it when you pointed out that I was wrong about being microsoft oriented but the moment u ppl started the IIT-is-the-best drama, that set me off…!
