new JEE might cause students move to easier board exam states

For admission into IIT’s the students will have to  clear two level JEE exam, one JEE Main and JEE Advanced but the eligibility to JEE Advanced comes not only from clearing JEE main as a preliminary exam but by scoring top 20 percentile in the 12th board examinations, but apparently the scores required to get into to the top 20 percentile in 12th board varies across the country, the variation is so wide that west bengal requires 58% and Andhra Pradesh board requires 87.2% and CBSE 77.8%.

With this wide variation in the difficulty to get into the top 20 percentile in the various states of the country, experts are contemplating students migrating to states with easier 12th board exam.

“It is another distortion whose impact we will see in the coming years. Let’s say in UP if the overall quality is lower than other States, then the students in the top 20 percentile cut-off will much weaker. It is like a State-level discount for entering the IIT, this might create a situation where students who can afford to migrate to a different state will move to that state for lower-cutoffs in board examination” Says S.V Divvaakar,Ace Global Consulting and an alumnus of IIT Delhi talking about the same.
